Alternatively, you can use emulsifiers to ensure a stress-free aromatherapy bath. This helps break down oil particles, making it easier for them to disperse well even though they don’t help with dissolving.


Although aromatherapy offers a wide range of benefits, it’s associated with some risks and hence you should exercise caution when handling them. For instance, essential oils meant for aromatherapy bath should be used topically. If swallowed, they could induce an adverse reaction in the body. The use of essential oils for aromatherapy is not approved by the FDA, therefore you may buy fake products in the name of natural oils. If you have underlying health issues, consulting a doctor before using aromatherapy could help ensure you don’t experience adverse effects. Some side effects that could be caused by aromatherapy bath include headache, nausea, and vomiting.

    An aromatherapy bath sounds like just what I need. Where I live I currently can not get out and about due to the terrible worldwide virus so this sounds like a little luxury I could indulge in at home and help me to relax (and I can do it with natural ingredients that you recommend at a much lower price than visiting a spa!)

    • Home spa is actually a great idea in these days when some of the services are still shut down. I do my aromatherapy once a week and it really great way to relax plus as you mentioned much cheaper than visiting a spa.

  • I absolutely adore chamomile essential oil. I never really considered having a spa day at home using it, but that sounds fantastic. I love this post! I need a spa day so much. I have a large garden bath tub that I have only used 1 time since I moved into my home. I always just hop in the shower so I forget about it. I say this weekend I am going to have a spa day and use some of the essential oil diffusing techniques you mentioned!

    Well this is a very timely read for me.

    I’ve been suffering with poor sleep for quite a while now, possibly due to lockdown and a change in habits.

    I note that you have mentioned how aromatheraphy baths could be a potential solution for my issues with sleep, and this has also been suggested to me by others.

    I’ve also been told that lavender oil is often used by people with sleeping difficulties, and I note that this is one of your recommendations for an aromatherapy bath.

    Furthermore, I see that you have mentioned using emulsifiers as a way to breakdown the oil particles when taking a bath.

    • Thank you Natalie for your comment. Dilute your essential oil with a carrier oil as recommended in the article. That’s the best way how to safely use the oil in the bath. Of course, you can find special essential oils for the bath which don’t need to be diluted.
