1. Faster Healing

Maintaining proper hydration or using lip balm quickly heals chapped and dry lips. Moreover, you can prevent such issues if you focus on lip care and hydration for your lips.

2. You Avoid Embarrassing Moments

It’s been said before that the first thing most people notice is someone’s smile, which is closely associated with your lips. Therefore, it can be very hard for anyone to miss chapped or dry lips immediately when they see them.

It’s an embarrassing moment and that’s why you always need to keep your lips hydrated by keeping a lip balm next to you all the time.

3. Supple Lips

Your lips will appear supplier and youthful if you keep them properly hydrated. If you have dry and lips you can use a lip balm to turn them plump and moisturized and give them that pop you always like.

4. Your Lips will stay Youthful and Plump

No one wants to have chapped and cracked lips because it’s not only bad for your lips’ health but also your look. Therefore, you need to focus more on hydrating them to give you that plump and youthful look.

How to Keep Lips Looking Healthy

Now that you know the benefits of keeping your lips hydrated, let’s now look at how you can actually keep them looking healthy.

1. Stay Hydrated

Like explained earlier, hydration is an essential practice for everyone and every part of your body, not just your lips. That’s because drinking enough water softens your skin due to enough moisture, improves your appetite, and softens your lips as well.

You should understand that your lips will mostly dry up and crack due to dehydration, which is why you need to stay hydrated.

2. Apply Lip Balm

Like your skin needs moisturizer to stay soft and youthful, so do your lips need lip balm to keep them soft and plump. Adding lip balm appropriately at different times during the day will keep your lips soft and youthful.

Ensure that the lip balm you use has natural remedies and avoid ingredients such as eucalyptus or menthol especially if you have chapped lips. That’s because both menthol and eucalyptus can cause you more lip irritation if you use either of them.

3. Use Red Light Therapy to Stimulate Collagen

As you may already know, light therapy is commonly used to treat wrinkles and acne, among other skin conditions. Generally, red light therapy is used to stimulate the growth of collagen that helps in keeping your skin and lips youthful.

Collagen protects your skin and lips from aging and using red light therapy to stimulate its growth is a great practice to keep your lips healthy.

4. Exfoliate Your Lips

Another essential practice that you can always employ for your lips is exfoliating them. Exfoliating your lips ensures that they are properly prepared to allow a lip balm to keep them hydrated.

This practice removes that layer and ensures that the lip balm you use will adequately hydrate your lips.

5. Avoid Licking Your Lips

However absurd this might sound to you, it’s actually a good practice to avoid licking your lips. That’s because licking your lips causes the air to evaporate quickly and suck up all the moisture provided by your saliva.

This means that licking your lips can actually do you more harm than good in the long run. Therefore, you should try as much as possible to avoid licking your lips whenever you feel dry. And the only way you can win in this situation is by having a lip balm with you all the time to hydrate your lips.

  • I moved to a new apartment about 3 months ago and for some reason, it’s so dry! I have dry spots on my face with flaking skin and my lips have been so chapped.

I have done a few of your tips. I’ve upped my water game like crazy and I have a lip exfoliator that I keep in the shower so I can easily rinse it off. The exfoliator helps tremendously! I also purchased a humidifier that I keep at my desk while I’m working and move it to the bedroom in the evenings!

I also keep a Chapstick in every room and of course a small stash in my purse!

Lip care is something a lot of people over look, but I’m glad you shined your light on the topic because it’s an important part of your skincare regime!

  • This is great advice! I live in Wisconsin, where it’s super dry and cold in the winter. The weather does a number on all of our skin and lips; usually, everyone carries lip balm in the winter, but our lips are always cracked and even bleeding during this season. I myself have actually recently started wearing lip balm more than I had in the past. I’ve also tried exfoliating, and I just started applying lip balm before lipstick – and it has made a HUGE difference!

Extreme changes in the weather are really challenging for our lips! Many people don’t pay a lot of attention to lip care although it’s very important not only in the winters where are our lips exposed to the changes in temperature. Keep up the great routine!

  • I love these products! All of them have natural ingredients and as I can see many are organic too. I often apply plain coconut oil on my lips and I also use lip balm, I always have. I also very rarely lick my lips, I prefer to put lip balm on them, because if you lick your lips they will indeed soon be dry again.
I am also going to check out your article about face yoga, it looks like something I would like to do.

    • ola.young

Hi Christine, indeed those products are really awesome. I also use coconut oil especially after spending most of the day on direct sun. I hope you are gonna like the post about face yoga, it’s a real magic if you do it consistently.
